Christmas Day 2008

Here's a smilebox with some pics from Christmas day. We had a gift opening in the morning at our house where the boys, my mom, and grandma opened their presents from us (and Santa!). Then we had a second opening in the afternoon at my grandma's house, where we opened their gifts to us. It was a busy day, but always a good time!

Goodbye Zoo!

I just wanted to share a quick Smilebox of our last day at the zoo. The photos were actually taken over two separate trips - one with Jack, one without. We only go on the rides when we are without Jack. And it was an overcast day, so the pictures are a little dark. Sorry. I could have brightened them in photoshop, but there were a lot and I was feeling overwhelmed. They still are ok though, so don't worry! :)

I'll have another post in a day or two with some videos as well.

A Day On The Farm

We took Henry to A Day On The Farm on Sunday. This was the first time we'd ever been to the event, and we all enjoyed ourselves! I would have liked to have stayed longer, but given Jack's current sleep situation, we wanted to try our best to adhere to our sleep schedules. We'll make up for it next year, I'm sure!

Glacier Ridge Animal Farm

If you've ever taken a trip up Highway 41 in NE Wisconsin, you've seen the buffalo roaming along the east side of the road between Fond du Lac and Oshkosh. We've enjoyed watching them from the road for years, and just recently learned that the Glacier Ridge Animal Farm was open to the public. We took the boys there today, and we all loved it (well, Jack slept through it, but you know what I mean!). It's $6/adult (not bad!), and when you pay they give each person a loaf of bread to feed all the animals with (you can get more bread if you want it).

There were all kinds of animals. Monkeys, cows, bison, buffalo, turkeys, chickens, ducks, geese, camels, emu, ostriches, horses, alpacas, llamas, shetland ponies, swans, turtles, bunnies, and probably a few more I can't think of!

Here is a Smilebox of our day. Most of the pictures are of the animals. I was amazed at how close we could get (they all eat right out of your hand). And there was a resident dog that followed us every where. Henry LOVED the dog. She brought us a big branch and we'd play fetch with her. Then she lost her branch, so she ran ahead of us on the trail and jumped up on a low hanging apple tree and pulled a fruit off. I thought she was hungry, but she brought it and dropped it at Darrin's feet to throw for her! It was so cute. There is a picture of her in the slideshow too. I really enjoyed myself, and can't wait to go back.

Family Reunion

On Sunday we attended our Kromm family reunion (maternal grandmother's family). The reunion is usually held at a park in a nearby community, but this year they decided to have it on the Kromm family farm that has been in the family for generations. It was such a beautiful day, and we had a wonderful time. I don't know about anyone else, but Darrin and I thought it was much more enjoyable at the farm, so we're hoping they stick to the tradition (but I can totally understand if our hosts were overwhelmed with the lot of us - about 100 people or so, I'm guessing).

Henry loved being on the farm. He loved everything about it. The horses, the cows, the empty barn, playing in the yard with Papa, petting the dog, etc. I need to get a card made and sent out to (cousin) Peter and (wife) Diane to thank them for hosting. Watch for it on my craft blog this week!

I have some pictures to show you from our trip to the Greenville Zoo too, so I'll get those loaded in the next day or two. I need to space things out so I don't run out of stuff to talk about over here! ;)

A Day at the Zoo

Well, we made it to the zoo! We were intending to go to the NEW Zoo in Green Bay, but were still waffling on it until 11pm Saturday night. Then we heard they might have some showers up there, so Sunday morning we opted to go South instead and headed for the Milwaukee Zoo (one of my top five all time favorite places to be) instead. Jack started to cry about 20 minutes into the (1 hr 45 min) trip, so we almost gave up. Thankfully his Grandma is expert in baby calming though, so we were able to get all the way there without having to stop for anything.

Henry just loved it. The Dairy Farm area was his favorite - I think because you could get closer to the animals. You could even go right in with the goats (of course we have no pictures of that - *sigh*). And the cows were HUGE. Seriously, some of the biggest cows I've ever seen in my entire life. They were MASSIVE.
